Think-Pair-Share is a cooperative structure in which partners sequentially take turns responding to a question, issue, situation or idea, then discuss their responses with one another.
A possible extension of Think-Pair-Share is Formulate-Share-Listen-Create (Johnson, Cooperative Learning Lesson Structures) in which teammates fist privately formulate responses, each share and listen in turn, then together create a new answer or perspective through discussion and elaboration.
These informal structures can be used to facilitate group interaction, providing ample opportunities to students to practice their communication skills. It can also help to boost their confidence.
