Corners (Kagan, Cooperative learning resources for teachers) is a cooperative structure that enables students to choose and discuss about a topic from different perspectives or approach a topic through different lenses.
It is possible to use the Corners as a cooperative structure in at least two ways:
Students are provided a topic and on various corners, different possible perspectives are posted in order to encourage students to adopt that perspective while discussing the topic.
A topic is provided and students choose the corner that makes more sense to them. Within a given time, students get the opportunity to walk to that corner and share the reasons why they chose it.
Note: The discussion process can take the shape of pair and share: where students first talk among themselves, in their smaller group and that chosen corner AND then a representative of the group gets to share with the rest of the class.
It is important to note that every member of the class can get the opportunity to determine the topics and dimensions for discussion.
